Congratulations Christmas Card Art Contest Winners
For the fifth year, Catholic Charities held a contest giving students in our CORAL after-school program an opportunity to design the agency’s annual Christmas card. Entries winning first and second place this year were from groups of students working together on the art. Great teamwork!
With more than 100 art entries this year from students at multiple CORAL program sites, our 2022 winners were from Spartan Keyes. Our three winners who worked together to create the winning artwork are: Ahaleah Caudillo, grade 4; Dorian Aranda, grade 6; and Olivia Rodriguez, grade 7. Their artwork included a quote from Corrie ten Boom who, with her family, helped many Jewish people escape from the Nazis during the Holocaust in World War II by hiding them in her home.
Second place in the contest went to a group of students from Empire Gardens: Fifth-graders Alejandro, Marco, Michael and Brandon.
CORAL (Communities Organizing Resources to Advance Learning) operates at 22 sites throughout Santa Clara County and provides a safe and productive learning environment during the after-school hours, when juvenile crime and substance abuse can peak. Students in quality after-school programs have better academic performance, behavior, and school attendance and greater expectations for the future. The CORAL program is an extension of the school day, held until 6 pm every day school is in session for students in pre-K through 8th grade. Students receive a free healthy snack, 60 minutes of homework help, and 60 minutes of balanced literacy instruction as well as enrichment opportunities like sports leagues, field trips, and science and art clubs. The program is entirely secular, neutral, and non-ideological.
