It is a tragedy that poverty continues to increase in the Santa Clara County, one of the wealthiest regions in the country.
There are 37.3 million Americans living in poverty and nearly one in four households in Santa Clara County is having troubles making ends meet.
Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County and a coalition of more than 90 agencies are deeply troubled by how federal, state and local governments have substantially reduced the resources devoted to assisting those who are impoverished. Poverty remains our county’s most profound moral failings.
The Campaign to Cut Poverty in Santa Clara County is about who we are as a region. We must no longer ignore the injustice of poverty and the extreme inequality in our neighborhoods. We must seize this opportunity to promote changes that promote human dignity and the common good.
