The agency has extensive experience administering a variety of disaster, self-sufficiency, and housing-related projects to individuals and families.
The focus of the Disaster Recovery Self-Sufficiency Program (DRSSP) is designed to assist low-income individuals displaced by the Coyote Creek Flooding. Services will include a comprehensive spectrum of support to address barriers to economic self-sufficiency that disaster survivors often experience. The DRSSP will reflect CCSCC’s long-time commitment to using evidence-based practices, including assessment tools and curricula, a client centered philosophy, motivational interviewing, and reflective listening. Services will include intake, assessment, case management, life skills and job readiness training and placement, financial literacy support and referrals to additional services within CCSCC and through linkages to community partners. The Emergency Programs and Housing Services Division (EPHS) serve families experiencing emergencies (both natural and human made) disasters as well as housing services. The Disaster Recovery Self-Sufficiency Program is operated in collaboration by the Program Manager of DRSSP and Division Director of Emergency Programs and Housing Services who reports directly to the agency’s CEO.
The mission of the Disaster Recovery Self-Sufficiency Program is to assist low-income individuals impacted by the Coyote Creek flooding by reducing economic barriers and improving their self-sufficiency. Often times lower income and minority communities are at an increased risk of natural disaster and less insulated against disaster-related economic shock. The DRSSP program will focus primarily on assisting clients in housing resources, increase their income and assets, and improve their access to food, health services, and other needed supports, all leading to greater self-sufficiency. Services will include: financial education and coaching, Individual Development Accounts, Employment Services, Public Benefits Navigation, English as a Second Language, Senior Services, Housing Services, and Ongoing Disaster Recovery Case Management and Referrals.
Provide a wide range of client centric holistic case management. Ensure ongoing quality control and accuracy of reports and of client eligibility. Recruit and assist low-income persons/families impacted by the Coyote Creek Flood to obtain Disaster Recovery Self-Sufficiency services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide ongoing Disaster Recovery Case management and support.
2. Assist clients in navigating the public benefits system helping clients overcome the challenge of navigating public benefits eligibility requirements and applications.
3. Conduct sessions of motivational interviewing and reflecting listening using self-sufficiency software such as MyWellBeing to track client progress.
4. Documents case management in the individual client AWARDS records.
5. Provide emergency financial assistance, transportation assistance on a case by case basis.
6. Work in Collaboration with the City of San Jose’s Disaster Preparedness program.
7. Lead volunteers trainings when necessary to enhance program services.
8. Compile data and create program outcomes monthly reports.
9. Create and maintain confidential files
10. Advise on and facilitate goal attainment for recovery after disaster.
11. Refer and link clients with the appropriate resources within CCSCC or in the community.
12. Act as a liaison and advocate for client attending ESL, Employment/Job Training, Financial Literacy Classes, etc.
13. Conduct outreach to all eligible participates who were impacted by the Coyote Creek Flood
14. Facilitate workshops on topics such as, but not limited to:
a. Senior activities
b. Publics Benefits Navigation
c. Financial Budgeting/Coaching
d. Housing Services
15. Assist clients in developing life-long savings habits among participant families
16. Work with Program Manager and Division Director to meet Funder deliverables
17. Participate in team building activities
18. Complete other duties as assigned.
BA or BS in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Business Administration, Finance, Communication, or related field preferred. High School Diploma/GED required.
At least three years of case management experience in the non-profit sector. (Equivalent education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the job may be considered.)
Required knowledge, skills & abilities:
1. Outstanding oral and written communications skills, including English fluency.
2. Bilingual/ bi-literate in English/Spanish required.
3. Must possess a strong work ethic, enjoy working collaboratively, and be capable of working independently with a high level of reliability.
4. Proven expertise when working with finances and accounting.
5. Excellent mathematical and budgeting skills.
6. Experience working with Grant Contracts and adhering to strict Federal, State, and City guidelines.
7. Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities
8. Experience presenting in crowds ranging from 5-200 people.
9. Ability to build and retain quality relationships with staff and maintain a strong team culture.
10. A high energy, optimistic attitude that encourages and motivates clients living in stressful, high pressure situations.
11. A proven commitment to continuous quality improvement, including an openness to constructive feedback.
12. Knowledge of modern office methods and practices, including filing systems, business, correspondence and presentations.
13. Excellent basic computer skills (e.g. keyboarding, Microsoft Word Office Suite, spreadsheets) as well as comfort with using cloud computing applications, electronic health records, as well as learning new technology tools quickly.
14. Exceptional organizational, problem-solving and time management skills.
15. Flexible, proactive, adaptable and able to work in a fast-paced, changing environment.

Work is performed at multiple sites, generally in an office environment, professional appearance and attire expected and required.
Hours and other conditions:
This is a full-time position. Some evenings and weekends will be required to meet the needs of the position.
