Catholic Charities is working closely with the Franklin McKinley School District in San Jose to deliver Prevention & Early Intervention (PEI) Services in partnership with the Santa Clara County Mental Health Department. Employing evidence-based practices, PEI services are targeting high-risk youth and their families with the goal of preventing, reducing, and eliminating mental health issues that may be inhibiting academic success and family wellness. The Therapist supports PEI by engaging families, in individual child, family, and group therapy to reduce or eliminate escalated behavioral challenges exhibited by students. Extensive training will be provided.
Lead Therapist will also supervise PEI Family Partners in their outreach efforts and case management services.

1. Provide individual, family and group therapy:
o Meet with youth and families in the schools, community, or family home
o Engage students and family in counseling sessions using Brief Strategic Family Therapy to prevent, reduce and treat behavior problems and improve family functioning
o Engage students in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to address severe or emerging behaviors that are trauma related
o Formulate, implement and monitor individual student and family assessments and treatment planning

2. Provides Clinical Case Management services
o Meet with families in the school, community or in the home
o Conduct follow-ups and monitor service delivery and client progress
o Ensure that all required documentation is properly completed within the required timeframes
o Transfer family and service documentation to electronic data systems as necessary, including AWARDS (electronic health system) and other required Medi-Cal based tracking systems
o Maintains a caseload of 12 to 15 families
o Complete all required County and agency assessment tools

3. Lead parent workshops and sessions
o Facilitate family education following identified curriculum (Triple P Levels 4 and 5) in both individual and group settings
o Ensure all workshop preparation activities have been executed

4. Supervise the Family Partners (4)
o Provide weekly individual supervision
o Assist in co-facilitating group supervision when needed
o Co-facilitate outreach meetings with PEI program manager
o Provide programmatic supervision over documentation, audits, productivity and other job expectations

5. Supervise Activity Assistants
o Interview and hire as needed
o Coordinate schedules and services provided

6. Attend Meetings
o CCSCC Management meetings
o CBH Lead meetings
o County meetings and FMSD meetings as needed
o Agency, Behavioral Health, and Children’s Behavioral Health departmental meetings

7. Support PEI Program Manager
o Assist in orientation and training of staff
o Facilitate PEI team meetings when needed
o Co-facilitate monthly audit process and chart closings
o Serve as back-up for Referral and Resource Coordinator in triage of referrals, assignments, and tracking and reporting of data.

8. Other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor

MA or MS in counseling, psychology, social work or related field (REQUIRED)

 Bilingual Spanish/English – (REQUIRED)
 Experience in PEI- (REQUIRED)
 PPSC Credential- (Recommended)
 Board of Behavioral Sciences registration as MFT Intern, ASW or PCC Intern
 Counseling experience in a community based setting
 Effective verbal and written communication skills
 Understanding of Medi-Cal eligible service provision and billing requirements
 Understanding of and sensitivity toward economic and cultural issues in diverse communities
 Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
 Demonstrated computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, and Internet usage)
 Ability to pass certification requirements for CANS assessment and Triple P Levels 4 & 5 within 90 days of hire (training and support will be provided)
 Team oriented with strong interpersonal and organizational skills
 Valid California driver’s license, automobile for local travel and client transport, proof of current auto insurance
 Fingerprinting and background check as required by the DOJ, and DMV clearance
 TB test

• The service is sometimes physical, requiring setting up for events which may require transporting or lifting cumbersome materials, e.g., easels, flip charts, refreshments, brochures, chairs, tables, etc.
• Must be able to report to service site on a regular and reliable basis
• Able to deal with stressful situations
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule, which includes day, evening, weekend, and holiday hours, as appropriate, to coordinate and provide services and activities for families during non-traditional hours
• Able to travel between sites and to attend offsite events throughout the county, as appropriate


• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident
