Handicapables is a program of Catholic Charities for adults with disabilities. Began in 1968, the program provides opportunities for socialization within a group with common interests and concerns.
Members meet twice a month at different parishes as well as attend various events throughout Santa Clara County. A steering committee and quarterly evaluations ensure that the program responds to members' interests and needs.

Members enjoy a monthly gathering that can include an optional Mass at a Parish within the Diocese of San Jose, lunch, group discussions, entertainment, or speakers. In addition, group outings are planned so members may attend cultural events, educational programs, and other recreational activities.
VOLUNTEERS
Volunteers make a significant contribution to the Handicapables Program. Adults of all ages can work together to improve the lives of people with disabilities in our community.
Volunteer opportunities include:
- Socializing with members
- Assisting with meetings or events
- Escorting members at church
- Serving meals at events
- Leading or assisting activities
(Volunteers attend orientation and training sessions.)
HANDICAPABLES
Forty years ago, Nadine Calligiuri looked at others who, like her, were disabled and saw not weakness or brokenness, but the immense power and beauty of God. For she saw the human spirit breaking free of the physical limitations nature placed on it and touching others to bring them joy and hope.
