PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:  CalFresh is the new name of California’s Food Stamp program. Catholic Charities’ CalFresh Outreach program increases enrollment among CalFresh-eligible households by removing barriers to enrollment. Through community education, application assistance, follow-up assistance, and advocacy.
GENERAL FUNCTION:  The CalFresh Outreach Volunteer will be a member of the CalFresh Outreach team, whose primary responsibility will be directly assisting clients with enrollment in the CalFresh program with screening for potential eligibility and following-up to preserve their enrollment. Training and ongoing support will be provided. Volunteer assignments will be available in communities throughout Santa Clara County, and hours vary with the volunteer’s availability. The position is supervised by the CalFresh Outreach Program Manager.
 
CalFresh OUTREACH TEAM MEMBER
Needed: Bilingual Outreach Volunteers:  Spanish, Vietnamese, and Mandarin
 
Volunteer Responsibilities:

• Attend a training session
• Work with clients in-person or over the phone to screen for potential eligibility and schedule application appointments
• Follow-up with enrolled clients to ensure ongoing benefits after their case has been decided by the Santa Clara County Social Services Agency
• Build knowledge of CalFresh, including its purpose, the enrollment process, and obstacles to enrollment
• Table at community events, partner agencies, retailers, and other sites where the CalFresh eligible population can be reached
• Put together and distribute outreach materials

Volunteer Qualifications and Requirements:

• Ability to work well with diverse Catholic Charities staff, volunteers, and clients
• Good verbal and written communication skills (English required, bilingual language skills are preferred)
• Basic computer skills and ability to learn web-based applications

1.  Zanker  Site: 2625 Zanker Road, San Jose  
Dates/Time:  Ongoing, Monday – Friday, 9am–1pm or 1–5pm
Minimum Age:  18 +  High School Diploma or GED
Required Language Capacity:   English and Spanish or other second language
Location:  Based at Zanker Site, 2625 Zanker Road, San Jose CA  95134, Sites will vary.

Minimum Age:  18 +  High School Diploma or GED
Required Language Capacity:  Must be Spanish speaking and willing to discuss Immigration issues especially.
