PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Catholic Charities’ Washington United Youth Center (WUYC) primarily serves youth ages 12 –17 and their families. We work hand in hand with the community and collaborate with neighborhood groups and many community based organizations.  The three major areas of programs and services:  

  1. Recreation: Sports, ping-pong, pool, weight lifting, and salsa-aerobics
  2. Support Services: Support groups for youth and parents, teen pregnancy prevention and dating violence education
  3. Leadership Development:  Leadership training, college awareness and preparation

EXERCISE INSTRUCTOR
Volunteer Responsibilities:  Lead exercise classes; minimum commitment of 10 weeks
Dates/Times: Wednesdays 9-10am; Tuesdays-Fridays 6-7pm
Minimum age: 18

EXERCISE ROOM FACILITATOR
Volunteer Responsibilities:  Monitor exercise room, answer questions, knowledgeable about various exercise equipment, experience as a personal trainer helpful
Dates/Times: Tuesdays through Fridays, 9am-12pm
Minimum age: 18

PIANO INSTRUCTOR
Volunteer Responsibilities:  Provide individual piano lessons to middle and/or high school students
Dates/Times: Flexible
Minimum age: 18

YOUTH CENTER VOLUNTEER
Volunteer Responsibilities:  Engage with youth in the Gym and Game Room
Dates/Times:  Monday – Friday; 4–7pm
Minimum age:  Must be at least 19

COMPUTER LITERACY INSTRUCTOR
Volunteer Responsibilities: On a 6-week basis, be available at the Summit League TechLab to assist students in enhancing their computer skills and/or setting up a class or classes to develop skills in specific areas ( e.g.: computer basics, MS Word, Excel, etc., based upon the strengths of the instructor).
Adult classes are taught in Spanish.
Youth classes are taught in English.
Dates/Times:  Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 3-6pm

EL Toro Youth Center – Morgan Hill CA

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Catholic Charities’ El Toro Youth Center provides a variety of services to at-risk low-income youth of Morgan Hill, primarily serving youth ages 7-17 including a homework assistance program, mainstream sports, anti-gang training and a variety of recreational and social programs.  In addition, we offer a strong parent component and a successful computer literacy program for both children and adults.

YOUTH CENTER VOLUNTEER
Volunteer Responsibilities:  Tutor and help with activities

Children, Youth, and Family Development – Franklin McKinley School District

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:  The Children, Youth, and Family Development division of Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County offers a variety of programs and services to help empower families. The mission of the Family Literacy program is to help children and their parents gain the tools they need to become self-sufficient.  We partner closely with parents with children from birth through 6th grade within the Franklin-McKinley School District. We create an engaging, literacy-rich environment with easy access to appropriate instruction and a wide variety of culturally competent literacy workshops.
 
ESL INSTRUCTOR -  Franklin McKinley School District

Dates/Times:  January 2012 – March 2012, Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6-8pm

GENERAL FUNCTION:  The ESL Instructor will teach and assist adult ESL learners in improving their English skills (reading, listening, conversation, and writing) for 2-6 hours per week.  The instructor will lead the class and facilitate learning as students work to achieve their educational and personal goals.  All instructional materials and classroom supplies are provided.

Volunteer Responsibilities:
Facilitate ESL instruction for a group of monolingual and limited bi-lingual adults
Utilize appropriate ESL curriculum using a variety of materials and teaching techniques to enhance student learning and outcomes, and to maintain student interest
Assist with the selection of appropriate books, equipment, and other instructional materials for the ESL program
Provide all students with a safe and appropriate learning environment

CHILDCARE ASSISTANT
Volunteer Responsibilities:   Provide childcare for the children whose parents are participating in the Family Literacy program.
Dates/Times:  August - June,  8–11am

PROGRAM ASSISTANT - Kinship Resource Center/Franklin McKinley School District

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The Successful Parents Program provides parent education for at-risk Vietnamese parents, covering topics such as child development, parent roles/responsibilities, age appropriate behaviors/expectations, and accessing support services. The program also includes parent support groups and youth  activities for children who accompany parents to classes and support groups.

Volunteer Responsibilities: 
GENERAL FUNCTION: The successful Parents Program Assistant will provide general support to the program supervisor including office support, meeting preparation, childcare support, and other duties as required.
Volunteer Responsibilities:  Copying and filing, data entry, meeting preparation (includes setting up tables and chairs as well as preparing and setting up food), Childcare support and various duties as assigned.
Dates/Times:  Minimum 3 hours per week (program support from 4–7pm on Wednesdays; office support during daytime hours)
Minimum age:  18+
Required Language Capacity:  English; Vietnamese helpful but not required.

CORAL AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM - Franklin McKinley and San Jose Unified School Districts

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:  CORAL (Communities Organizing Resources to Advance Learning) is an after school program for elementary and middle school students in the Franklin-McKinley School District and Anne Darling, Empire Garden, Olinder, and Washington elementary schools in the San Jose Unified School District.
Volunteers will provide different enrichment activities to our program such as cultural dance, drumming, mask making, storytelling, cartooning, science experiments, cooking, and soccer. CORAL programs run after school until 6 p.m. The schedule is flexible to time and availability.
Dates/Times: Monday – Friday, 2:30 – 5:30pm
Minimum Age:  14

Volunteer Responsibilities:  Organize and lead various art projects/activities for elementary and/or middle school youth

CORAL LITERACY TUTOR
Volunteer Responsibilities:  Provide 1-1 literacy tutoring for students who read below grade level

CORAL SCIENCE CLUB INSTRUCTOR
Volunteer Responsibilities:  Lead science group projects and experiments for elementary and/or middle school youth
Dates/Times: Flexible; Monday-Friday afternoon between 2:30pm and 5:30pm

CORAL SPORTS COACH (SOCCER/BASEBALL)
Volunteer Responsibilities:  Coach elementary and middle school youth soccer and/or baseball teams in the CORAL afterschool program
Dates/Times: Flexible; Monday-Friday afternoon between 2:30pm and 5:30pm
Minimum age:  14

PROGRAM ASSISTANT - (Work with kids)
Volunteer Responsibilities:  Support site staff by ensuring the safety of the participating students.  
Supervise and assist students during sign in, snack and the enrichment timeframes.  
Support on site staff increase student participation by making phone calls and recruiting students.  
Assist with facility clean up and organization.
NOTE:  Monthly stipend is available
Dates/Times:  Monday thru Friday, 2–6pm
Minimum Age:  18
